A healthier after-school rhythm

Children need more places to be present.

Screens are part of modern life. The goal is not guilt — it is balance. A regular class gives children a positive reason to put the device down, use their whole body and connect face to face.

60minutes
of moderate-to-vigorous activity each dayRecommended for Australian children and young people aged 5–17.
2hours max
of sedentary recreational screen timeThe Australian guideline excludes screen time needed for schoolwork.

Why parents choose the mat

Three skills that travel home.

Every class blends movement, problem-solving and respectful teamwork. The result is not a promise of perfection — it is repeated practice in useful life skills.

01 · CONFIDENCE

Calm under pressure

Children practise posture, boundaries, self-control and how to ask a trusted adult for help.

02 · FRIENDSHIP

A team to belong to

Partner drills, shared progress and positive coaching make conversation and connection feel natural.

03 · FOCUS

Energy with direction

A screen-free hour becomes listening, moving, remembering and working towards the next small win.

Anti-bullying confidence

Being strong starts with knowing what to do.

Bullying is never a child’s fault, and no sport replaces support from parents, carers and schools. Jiu‑Jitsu can give children a safe place to rehearse calm, assertive choices while learning that physical skills come with responsibility.

Breathing, balanced posture and controlled movement help children practise responding rather than reacting.

Real friends, real teamwork

Friendships grow one drill at a time.

Walking into a new room can feel big. Our structured class format gives children an easy shared purpose: learn the movement, help a partner and celebrate progress together.

  • Partner work that rewards cooperation
  • Consistent routines that help shy children settle in
  • A respectful team culture across ages and experience levels
  • Small moments of progress children can share

Questions parents ask

Everything before the first class.

Still unsure? Book a free class and the Artarmon team will help you choose the right starting point.

No. The Kids programme is beginner-friendly and uses a structured progression so children can learn at an appropriate pace.

Jiu‑Jitsu can support confidence, assertive communication, body awareness and responsible self-defence. It is not a replacement for listening to your child, contacting their school or seeking professional support when needed.

That is common. Predictable class routines, small partner activities and supportive coaching can make joining in feel more manageable. Tell the team before class so they can welcome your child thoughtfully.

Training time is focused on physical instruction, partner work and movement. It gives children a regular block of active, face-to-face time away from recreational screens.

Contact Gracie Barra Artarmon before attending and the team will confirm the class, uniform arrangements and what to bring for your child’s free trial.

The school is at Unit 8, 82 Reserve Road, Artarmon NSW 2064, convenient for families from Chatswood, St Leonards, Lane Cove, Crows Nest and Willoughby.
